Last chinese descendants in Cuba : since June 3, 1847, when the ship Oquendo arrived in Havana with the first Chinese who set foot on the island, many years have passed and the Chinese community has lived many adventures, stories of exodus, discrimination, success, abandonment, etc.
Nowadays, there are less than 100 living natural Chinese (born in China) who emigrated to Cuba in the 40's and 50's. I am looking for them in this documentary photography project. They are the protagonists of one of the many exoduses that human beings have suffered and in a few years there will be none of them left to tell about their lives.
After discovering the few old Chinese who remain in Cuba, I embark on this long-term project. One of the biggest handicaps has been to enter the community and be accepted, especially by the elderly, who are more reluctant and do not look kindly on "being photographed".
After reading books about the Chinese community in Havana, contact with the writers who help me to enter and be accepted, the years go by and I have good friends, I continue taking photos and visiting the cemetery on Qingming Day.
The work of photo editing has sought to create a melancholic atmosphere and a certain feeling of sadness at his upcoming disappearance, this I also try to convey with the predominant shot in the photos, a tone shooting cold and distant.
I hope that this work will end when the last natural Chinese person left in Cuba dies, and I look forward to being there to say goodbye to him/her.
