Black Ballet : through this report I pay tribute to the Afro-Cuban dancers and the way they connect with their ancestors through the dances brought from Africa by the slaves and continuously updated in Cuba.
One of the most difficult tasks to carry out this project was to be accepted in the rehearsals of this group, I had to go many times without camera to be welcomed little by little, the second of the inconveniences was the scarce light that there is since only in summer they "slip" some rays of sun by the ceiling.
The decision to work in Black and White was taken after the fact. I simply focused on working to the sound of the drums and trying to feel some of the emotion and trance that the dancers felt and staged, for this reason the project changed from a more classic photo edition to the final in which I focused on scenes of high energy and trance moments of the dancers.
Choosing the word Ballet for the title has to do with the little presence of dancers of African descent in the famous ballet of Cuba, is a ironic wink to this little presence, a tribute to Cuban folklore.
